Profile of Dr. D. R. Singh, Vice Chancellor
Dr. D. R. Singh, a renowned Researcher and Educationist has been appointed as the 39th Vice-Chancellor of C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, joined on 11 February, 2020. Dr. Singh born on 20th November, 1964, has an excellent academic record to his credit. He obtained his Ph.D. in Horticulture (1992) from Agra University, Agra, U.P.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Singh worked as Director, ICAR-NRC for Orchids, Sikkim. Under his dynamic leadership, NRC for Orchids took several initiatives and made policies for improvement of Orchids research and production in India. He has also worked as Director (Act.), ICAR-CARI, Portblair. He served more than 26 years in scientific/research work in horticultural science recipient of 16 International and National recognitions like Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad Award of ICAR, Lt. Governors Commendation Award, Dr. R.S. Paroda Award, Outstanding Scientist Award, Genome Savoir Award and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Puraskar. He has also been recognised by national and international professional society.
He has served as Vice President of Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture, Journal of Andman Science Association and Member of International Advisory Board of World Noni Research Foundation. He has been Editor in Chief of many scientific journals including Journal of Andman Science Association, Indian Journal of Horticulture, Orchid News Letter and Noni News Letter. He has organised, co-ordinated and attended several National and International symposium/conference. He has handled several National and International projects worth more than Rs. 700 lakhs as a Leader and Mentor. Dr. Singh has developed 17 varieties of different horticultural crops, several products and registered 7 unique germplasms, developed 8 databases and apps.
He has published more than 206 research papers in various National and International Journals, authored 10 books, 50 book chapters, 20 training manuals and 45 technical bulletins on horticultural crops.
