India has 2.45 percent of the worlds land area and 17 percent of the total world population. India is the second most populous country in the world after China. About 72 percent of its population live in villages and about 2/3 of its work force is engaged in agriculture and allied activities. According to an estimate, the burgeoning population of India is expected to exceed 1225 million by 2015, requiring nearly 275 mt. of food grain, against current production of 209 mt. of food grain. Per capita cultivated land area availability which was 0.53 ha in 1950 and 0.195 ha in 1990, is expected to decrease to 0.121 ha by 2025 and 0.087 ha by 2050 putting a major challenge to meet all basic needs of our Indian masses.

Therefore, ICAR, New Delhi have been established 634 KVKs at every district to fulfilling the geographically and socially conditions of local areas by extension activities and technology transfer. In which Krishi Vigyan Kendra, , Firozabad was established in 2005 under the administrative control of Chnadra Shekhar Azad university of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Firozabad is situated at NH-2 and 8 Km away from Firozabad railway station near Hazaratpur Ordinance Factory (GOI). Firozabad at 12 km mile stone towards Agra. KVK is situated in South-western zone of UP (Zone-IV) semi-arid.

Firozabad district was established on 5/2/89.The District is connected by rail and bus to major cities. The nearest Airport is Agra . The NH-2 and Delhi-Hawara railway passes through the district.

Geography of Firozabad

Firozabad is located in north central India, in western Uttar Pradesh state, 40 km away from Agra and around 240 km away from Delhi, at the northern edge of the Deccan Plateau, at 27°09′N 78°24′E / 27.15°N 78.4°E / 27.15; 78.4. The height above sea level is 164 meters (540 ft). The boundaries of Firozabad district touch Etah district in north and Mainpuri and Etawah districts in the east. The Yamuna river makes its southern boundary. The area of the district is about 0.8% of total area of Uttar Pradesh, and the population is 1.1% of the state’s total population. Approximately 73.6% of the population lives in rural area. More than half of the workforce is engaged in manufacturing activities. The city is also an important market center. It has severe winter and summer seasons. The district is mostly flat and its slope is from north west to south.

There are four (4) sub-divisions/tehsils namely Firozabad, Shikohabad, Tundla and Jasrana with nine (9) development blocks namely Narkhi, Firozabad, Tundla, Eka, Khairgarh, Jasrana, Shikohabad, Araon and madanpur. The district comprises of 821 villages included 19 un-inhabited villages.

As per 2011 censes the population of the district was 24,96,761 out of which 13,37,141 males and 11,59,620 females with overall literacy rate of 74.60%. So far as male literacy is concerned it is 83.03% and female is 64.80%.

The geographical area of the district is 2361 Sq. Km. (about 257837 hectares). The cultivated area of the district is about 180954 hectares. The major cropping patterns followed in the district are bajra, paddy, arhar, til, urd, moong in kharif and wheat, mustard, barley, potato, garlic etc. in rabi. The soils are loam, sandy loam, loamy sand, silty clay loam, ravines and waste land. The fertility status of spoil is poor to very poor. The average annual rainfall of the district is 665.40 mm. temperatures varies from 40C (during December-January) to 480C (during May-June). The district has 237 state tube-wells and 32295 private tube-wells which contributes assured irrigation to almost 80.49% of the cultivable area. Uppar Ganga canal and lower Ganga canal are two major canals of the district. There are 94 cold storages in the district.

About 70% of the cultivated area is covered under Bajra and wheat crops and the rest of the area under potato, vegetables, fodder, oilseeds and pulses etc. in the year 2014-15 district Firozabad became first (area) in potato cultivation.

Besides others, there is lot of scope for marketing of horticultural crops keeping in view the district is near with NCR. There is one state garden nursery at Firozabad which takes care of some horticultural plants like-guava, aonla, potato and vegetables seed production.

As per live stock census, district has 89007 cattle, 521037 buffaloes, 14410 sheep, 222862 goats, 25955 pigs and 42119 poultry. The district has a network of 84 veterinary facilities including 21 veterinary hospitals centre and extension centre.

The district has ponds covering 25 hectares of lands where fish farming and fish culturing is being undertaken under the guidance of fisheries experts.
