 Proceedings of 2nd Annual General Meeting
 
 

The 2ndAnnual General Meeting of the Alumni Association was held in the Lal Bahadur Shastri Krishak Sabhagar of C.S. Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur on January 24, 2009. Dr. Akhtar Husain, Founder Director of CIMAP, former Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi and an illustrious alumnus of this Institution was the Chief Guest of the function. Dr. V.P. Kanaujia, Vice-Chancellor of the University and Patron of Alumni Association presided over the meeting; Chaudhary Samar Pal Singh, Honorary Member of Alumni Association also' graced the occasion. Altogether 90 members participated in the meeting (List enclosed).

The programme began with National Song and then Chief Guest inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. Dr. K.D. Upadhyaya, President of the Alumni Association, in his welcome address, emphasized the need to organize Alumni Meetings at larger scale so as to develop better integration between Alumni and the University.

The General Secretary of the Alumni Association Dr. Ram Krishna, in his report, informed the house that the Alumni Association formed on Sept., 06, 2006 has now been registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860) w.e.f. July 10,2007. He apologized for the delay. in holding the 2ndAGM. He further informed the house that despite concerted efforts for increasing membership, the Alumni Association had only 118 members including 97. life members.

Dr. A.K. Sachan, Treasurer, in his. financial report declared a net receipt of Rs. 1, 54,201.00 in the Alumni Association Account, out of which Rs. 31,297.00 has been. spent, leaving a balance of Rs.I,26,004.00, as on 06.10.2008. He informed the house that a sum of Rs. One lakh has been invested in Fixed Deposit Scheme of SBI, to earn better returns on Alumni Association funds.

Dr. Ram Krishna presented the agenda for consideration of the house. The decisions arrived at, item-wise, are as under:

Item 1: Ratification of Dr. P.N. Bajpaias Honorary Member of Alumni Association for the year 2008

The house approved Dr. P.N. Bajpai as Honorary Member of the Alumni Association for the year 2008.

Item 2: Review of membership fee of the Alumni Association

The house resolved that the prevailing fee-structure for life and annual membership shall remain effective, however, it was agreed that the sum of Rs. 2,000.00 towards life membership fee may be paid in two equal installments, subject to the condition that both installments should be paid before 30thJune of the same calendar year.

Agenda 3: Appointment of the Election Officer for holding election of Executive Council– 2009-12

Dr. O.P. Chaturvedi, Professor and Head, Deptt. of Horticulture was approved as 'Election Officer' for holding the election for 07 posts of the office bearers and 06 members of the Executive Council of Alumni Association (2009-12), as per the Rules & Regulations of the Alumni Association. It was further resolved that, only paid-up members as on 30thJune 2009 shall participate inthe election. Defaulters/members enrolled after the said date will not be able to contest or vote in the. election. The General Secretary shall provide a list of up-to-date members, as on 30thJune, 2009, to the Election Officer by 4th July 2009. The election process will start from 6thJuly 2009, and the new Executive Council shall take charge w.e.f. September 06, 2009 for a periodof three years.

Agenda 4: Appointment of Representatives (State/Zone-wise) to speed-up membership drive

The house felt that Representatives may. be appointed in various States/Zones/Departments who may. contact and enroll new members, in their respective Department/Zone/State. Following members were appointed Association Representatives for the respective Department/State, as indicated below:

In post-tea session, a brain-storming discussion on "The Scenario of Agriculture Education in India" was held. Dr. Mukesh Mohan, Convenor of the session delivering an opening talk titled, "What Ails Agriculture Education in SAUs", expressed deep concern on the professional competence and employability of agriculture graduates currently produced by SAUs and other Universities. He suggested innovative changes in course and curricula of graduate programme "tocater the emerging needs of Agriculture-input industry, NGOs, R&D institutions and development agencies. Taking the discussion ahead, Dr. K.D. Upadhayay, Ex-Dean (Agriculture) made various suggestions for improvement of Agriculture Education in India. Chaudhary Samar Pal Singh emphasized an urgent need to re-orient the present education and research system.

Dr. Akhtar Hussain, Chief Guest, in his address, admired the role played by this Institution till early sixties but later the .condition deteriorated unfortunately. He applauded the contributions of SAUs in Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in improving farm yields. He called upon the scientists of the University to work for improving the economic status of famters of area Jurisdiction through constructive use of modem agriculture technology.

Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. V.P. Kanaujia, in his presidential remark said his ambition was to raise the academic standard of the University so as to re-gain its past glory. He requested experienced alumni to give constructive suggestions for improvement of the University. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. S.K. Singh, Dy. Director, (Soil Conservation), Krishi Bhawan and an Alumnus of the University.
