About the College

After the establishment of CSAUA&T, Kanpur, the University in its 38th meeting of the Board of management held on 29th July 1981 considered and approved SND schemes for the year 1981-82 through which the concept of imparting Home Science education, the science and art of managing the farm/rural family system, took birth. The general consensus amongst the learned members of the Board of management to this concept, culminated in the consolidation of it and thus, a decision to start Home Science as a discipline under the Umbrella of the Faculty of Agriculture took shape.

According to the statutes of the University, there exists a provision for a Home Science College and a Home Science Faculty. After a couple of years of serious thinking and planning, the Faculty of Agriculture opened the Department of Home Science in the University in 1983-84. The decision taken in February 1986 to introduce a Home Science education programme leading to B.Sc.(Home Science) Degree from the academic session 1983-84 became a milestone in the history of the growth and development of Home Science at CSAUA&T, Kanpur. The Faculty of Home Science took shape in 1998 at CSAUA&T, Kanpur, to impart Home Science education to the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Mission

The faculty of  Home Science is committed  to excellence and aspires to enhance the standard of living of individual in general and rural families and communities in particular through teaching, research and extension activities. The main focus is on empowerment of women and girl child in rural and urban households through self employment, service support to industries and communities that would help them to become better resources manager and contribute towards national development, promote home science as an entrepreneurial subject and make home science students stand successfully in the current market.
