It gives me great pride and immense pleasure to join the fraternity of prestigious Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur as its Vice-Chancellor, and I take this opportunity to welcome newly joined and ongoing students, enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in different colleges of the university. I believe that students are fortunate to get quality education and research opportunities under the mentorship of faculty members at this university, where the curriculum is regularly upgraded to meet the demand of current challenges while enriching the students’ learning experience through student-centric teaching methods. It helps in the development of human resource as well as the technologies needed for the growth and development of the country.
I am happy to know that the university has also established itself proudly as a learning seat of academia across the nation, and now it stands firmly amidst the reputed SAUs. This is one of the most coveted agricultural universities and since its establishment in 1975 it has grown to be a competent centre for agricultural education, research and development, and in many ways ushered India’s renaissance in agricultural education. During all these years, the university has worked hard to fulfill the expectations of the visionaries of the country to transform the agricultural scenario in India. This credit undoubtedly goes to the efforts put up by the well-accomplished faculty members and dedicated support staff.
CSA Agricultural University is stepping upto the challenge to facilitate and undertake human capacity building for developing self-motivated professionals and entrepreneurs. It is a matter of great pride for CSA to have played out its role in ushering a quantum leap in food production in the state through a chain of technological interventions. The university has been imparting quality education through outcome and value based education system, supported by competent and learned faculty members who regularly update their knowledge through participating in national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. The faculty members have also raised the standards of teaching and research through incorporating MOOCs, chiefly NPTEL & SWAYAM in their routine classroom teaching. This is easier than done that the university has witnessed a huge number of SCI indexed publications in high h-index and impact journals.
The unique feature of the university is that students from different parts of the state of Uttar Pradesh are getting admission to this prestigious university. The entrance examination provides equal opportunity for each student to shape his/her career in the chosen discipline. Every year a significant number of agriculture graduates of this university gets awarded with ICAR, JRF and SRF for their higher education. Also, the university organizes farmers fairs and other events which provide a variety of experiences to the students and inculcate in them the skills of leadership, while showing them the importance of collaboration and teamwork.
Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur has well-developed laboratories in different colleges and the entire campus is ICT enabled, along with all basic facilities and amenities come handy. The university provides the environment to facilitate need-based, region-specific and farmers’ problem-centric research.
The university has been in part of green revolution and instrumental in uplifting the socieo-economic status of farmers through the development of landmark cultivars / varieties and agrotechniques.
The present century poses new challenges due to clear cut impact of climate change coupled with fast depleting natural resources like water, plateuing in yields in crops, emergence of new pests and disease and the slow pace of indigenous efforts in mechanization, to name but a few.
I am confident that the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur fraternity will produce excellent scientists, technocrats, visionary leaders, competent researchers and teachers in the fields of agriculture, dairy, horticulture, home science, agriculture engineering, forestry and fishery, who will not only bring laurels to the university but also make the nation proud.
