In the subsequent years of the establishment of CSAU&T, Kanpur, i.e. in the 38th meeting of the Board of Management held on 29th July 1981, the SND Schemes was approved and the concept of imparting Home Science education, the Science and art of managing the farm/rural family system, took birth in 981-82. The general consensus amongst the learned members of the Board of Management to this concept, culminated in the consolidation of it and thus a decision to start Home Science as a discipline under the umbrella of the Faculty of Agriculture took shape. According to the statutes of the University, there exists a provision for a Home Science College [Section28 (1)] and a Home Science Faculty [Section17 (1)] after a couple of years of serious thinking and planning, the Faculty of Agriculture opened the Department of Home Science in 1983-84. Form this humble beginning in 1983-84 as a Department of Home Science in the Faculty of Agriculture with couple of significant rooms at its disposal, the discipline, gained the status of a College in the year 1986 with a building of the Faculty of Home Science was inaugurated in 1987. Subsequently after a decade of its existence as College of the CSAUA&T, Kanpur, to impart Home Science education to the people of UP, in specific and elsewhere in the country, in general.
Growth And Present Status
With the passage to time, the academic programme offered by the college also grew in complexity. In the beginning, the college offered an Education programme of three years leading to B.Sc. (Home Science) Degree, which was further extended to 4 years. The college has introduced 2+2 year B.Sc. (Hons.) programme to strengthen its Elective programmes from the academic session 2002-03. However, Master’s Degree Programme in Home Science Extension Education in 1993-94 with specialization in Foods and Nutrition and with The Department & Communication Management in 2002-03.
The Department is running undergraduate programmes based on the recommendations of the ACAR IV Deans Committee recommendation and postgraduate programmes based on ICAR National Core Group recommendations. The Doctorate programme was also started during 2002-03.
